Life is a Mystery

A guy I know is getting his leg amputated today.

How is that fair?

Three months ago, a tumor was found in his leg. Luckily, the cancer hadn't spread anywhere else. Just his leg. Because of this, he had to quit playing basketball and receive chemotheropy. It didn't work.

Recently, doctors placed two choices upon his shoulders. The doctors could remove 80% of his lower leg. He would sitll have a leg, however, he would constantly be in pain, wouldn't be able to walk normally, and wouldn't play sports again. Option two is aumputation. He would be able to get a fake leg and play sports. When he decided to have his leg amputated, he said part of his personality wouldn't be cut out. He'd still be the same person.

I wish there could be another way for him. My heart aches for him when I think of him waking up after surgery and knowing his leg is gone.

But at the same time, he has become my hero. He is facing the unknown with a positive attitude. He doesn't complain. He is still going to live his life the way he wants to.

How can this person not complain about cancer and a leg amputation when I complain about getting a little cold that will be gone in a week?

Shouldn't we all follow his example and try to be more positive?
