The Hunger Games

So...the new exciting book/movie series coming out is The Hunger Games. I didn't want to read it in the first place because well...it's disturbing. People get chosen to kill each other until only one remains? Not really my kind of book.
But a friend of mine told me to read it. They said I would love it, and I don't want to judge a book/movie without reading the book and watching the movie.
I must admit, it is a page turner but that doesn't mean it is a good book. It just means you want to know who kills whom in the end.
You know that feeling you get when you read something not right? I call it disturbed. I am disturbed.
It's twelve to eighteen-year-old kids killing other kids. Kids killing kids.
Yes, I have read books where killing goes on. But it's never as disturbing as this. Take Harry Potter for example. They are kids but they're fighting for something better. They are not trying to kill their fellow classmates.
To make matters worse, near the end, the government makes genetically mutated wolves using DNA from the dead tributes. Creepy, right?
The main character forms a bond between another character but you know it can't last because only one can survive the game.
A girl is stung to death by genetically mutated wasps.
Necks are broken.
Kids are stabbed by their peers.
It is disturbing.

I do not understand why this book is such a hit. But at the same time, I must admit it is an interesting idea for a story:  a government in control over people making them do things they don't want to do. But it could have been written better.
But if you love the books and movie, great. This is just my opinion.

Pears and Cottage Cheese

Might not sound like the best combination...but it is, trust me.
Pears and cottage cheese reminds me of summer. It's fresh and fruity and light. My mom and I used to eat it frequently one summer but our tradition died off somehow.
Yesterday, after a quick-ish trip to Walmart, I walked out with cottage cheese and canned pears in hand. Needless to say, the pears were devoured within minutes.
But now I'm hungry for spring and summer.
Green grass
Green trees
Colorful flowers
Swimming
Reading a book under a tree
Going for a walk at sunset
Lying on cool green grass staring at stars
Picnics
Hiking
Rock skipping
Making pictures with clouds

All because of pears and cottage cheese.
